Help!

I have just bought my first home, and it needs landscaping something terrible.* I kknow exactly what I'd like in the front, but no one can tell me what it is.* I have had*some minor gardening experience as a youngster and these shrubs were in our front yard.

It's an evergreen shrub, with very dense pine-needle-shaped leaves.* The leaves are soft, however.* I remember it having red berries, and it was great for cutting into shapes, like topiary.* My father rounded them one year, and had rectangles the next.

I'd like to plant these along the front of my house, below the windows, and then add in some azaleas or something for color.* I would great appreciate anyone who could tell me the name!

    Hi Kai,

Congratulations on your new home!!* I think you are referring to a yew - Taxus.* There are many different varieties so choose carefully if planting under windows.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
