pruning Rose of Sharon Shrubs
:? I have several Rose of Sharon Shrubs in my yard and with the extended cold weather last winter, it seems to have killed alot of the branches. I do have alot of new growth coming up but was wondering if I can prune off where there is no new growth. Some of the new growth is coming out of the ground with no foliage on the stocks above ground.
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks Kimberly

hi, kimberly :D we have two rose of sharon bushes. last year we trimmed pieces out of them all summer long. my understanding is they are pretty resiliant. definately take the dead branches off, it shouldn't hurt it. i'm not sure about the new growth at the bottom, we keep ours trim unless it's a big branch.

I'm sure you've already addressed this but you can always prune off dead branches any time. It won't hurt the plant at all. Prune back to a living node and cut right above it.
Good luck next time,
