Thread: Susanne Maple

  1. #1
I'm looking for a source for this shrub: Acer Shirasawanum Susanne (Susanne Maple). We'd like to plant it as a tribute to a lost family member. Have found it only in the Netherlands so far. Anyone have any other ideas?

    Hi Trbrnd,

You don't say where you live.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Sorry - I'm in Kansas, zone 6, but would be willing to order from just about anywhere.

    Hi Tammy,

I wasn't sure if you were in the US or not.* I too have searched extensively and have been unable to find any in the US.* I searched at some reputable retailers as well as Google.* I do hang around at several boards and I will suggest you might want to ask here.* This site is located in British Columbia, so it would be most important to put in your location when you register and mention that you are looking for a US source.* I'm also going to include a conversation that might be insightful, with both the cached version so you can see the highlights, and the straight web version.* If you read all the posts you will see that 'Mr. Shep' is quite knowledgeable and grows his own trees.* 'SilverVista' also talks about propagating but she hasn't posted in almost 2 years.* Once you register you might want to send her a private message if you don't get any response to your post.* You might title it something like:
Searching for Acer Shirasawanum 'Susanne' in the US.

Here's the cached post in their Maples forum.

Here's the straight post in their Maples forum.

Here's their main page.* If you scroll down to the Maples forum you will see 'Links to Maple Resources'.

If you are going to mail order you can check references here.* You can also search by plant material and it might be worth searching for Japanese maples.

If none of this works out for you, lmk as I may have some other resources for searching.* There are some specialty nurseries in the Pennsylvania area that i'm aware of but they either don't have a website or they didn't have your tree when I searched.* I have an old friend that I haven't written to in a couple of years that I could try to find and see if he knows where to get your tree.

    Good luck,
    Newt
