Hello everyone. :)

I need to fill in some gaps in the treeline between my yard and my neighbor's. The trees are mostly mature pines and birch. Soil is not great, very sandy. I'd like something that will be about 6 feet at maturity. Tall enough to block my view of their mess, but not tall enough for them to complain about their view of the lake being obstructed.

I've read about Fendler's Barberry (berberis fendleri) which sounds perfect with it's edible fruit but each plant is $8 or so dollars, and it's safe "maybe" in zone 3.

Also goat's beard. Which I like the picture of but I haven't found anyone who has actually grown it.

It isn't really deep shade in some spots, but the critical spot is.

I appreciate your time and tia.
