    Hi Hoemancat,

Some varieties of apples are self fertile and some aren't.* Peaches are usually self fertile.* Do you know which varieties of each that you have?* We could look them up.

*Maybe you are lacking in bees, especially if you or anyone near you sprays with pesticides or herbicides.

I'm thinking you meant to type the man suggested you swipe the tree with a board, not wipe it.**:)* The idea of whacking the trees is to make them think they are threatened or under attack or threat of death and therefore they will produce more seed.* The seeds are contained in their fruit.* The problem with that is the potential to damage the bark and expose the cambium of the tree, making a place where insects and disease can attack.* If you do hit the trees, be sure to wrap a towel around the trunk so you don't damage the bark.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Thank you very much,I talked to a apple grower, and he said to plant another apple tree near by, I did,as for the peach tree I went a head and planted another peach too.I couldn't find any semi dwarf trees so I planted dwarf trees,I hope this is ok. I'm not familur with dwarf trees. He said the same thing you said about the peach tree,I never did wak the tree with a board, afraid of hurting it.I have*a*small farm so I have plenty a bee's,I lime my fields every 2 yrs. a ton to a acre, and I use veg. killer for the drive and barns, but it's not near any of the tree's,I have two area's of fruit trees, the south group* blooms every year, the north side by the garden never does,I use 12 12 12 fertalizer and liq.7 for some plants.

You are so very welcome!* I think the dwarf trees will be just fine.* The rootstock is what is different for the different sizes.

I was glad to read that you have no problems with lack of bees.* You did mention you use "veg. killer" and I'm hoping that means vegatation and it's something organic like vinegar.* You also mention "liq.7" and I'm wondering if that is Sevin.* That stuff is awful and I wouldn't have that near my home!* It's a very powerful pesticide.

Any particular pests that are a problem?* Maybe we can come up with plants that will repel them or an organic treatment.
