Help!* I just purchased my Crimson Queen and have not planted it yet.* I noticed that the leaves are losing the red coloring.* I don't know if this is frost damage because we did have a day that the temp reached freezing over night just about two days ago.* This tree has been sitting on the east side of my house, not 4 feet away.* The leaves appear to be turning a very light color.* I can't say it's green because it looks to be more off white or light yellowish.* Is this frost damage, sun damage... please help

    Hi D33b33,

When you say you have a Crimson Queen and it's a tree, I'm guessing it's a Japanese maple called Acer palmatum 'Crimson Queen'.* Without pics it's impossible to say what is going on with your tree.* This tree's leaves will change colors over the seasons, becoming burgundy and then crimson in the fall.* A sunny spot, especially early in the season, can cause the leaves to become more green.* Too much bright sun can cause leaf scorch.

Yellowing of leaves is usually a sign of chlorosis, a nutrient deficiency.* In a potted plant it can also be a sign that it's rootbound.* Have you checked to see if it's rootbound?* Is the soil slightly moist?

Maybe this will help.* If not, how about a picture?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Thank you for your quick response.* Yes, this is a Japanese Maple tree called Crimson Queen.* I checked to see if it was root bound and it's not.* I'm attaching a picture and I hope it helps.* I think the soil moisture has been fine, it's been moist.

That looks like scorch from either sun or wind.* The pic is a bit small so take a look here to see if thatis' what yours looks like.

The coloring looks like scorch but the only difference is that on my plant, the scorching starts from the middle of the leaf instead of on the ends.* I guess I just don't have it in enough shade.* Thanks for your help.

You are very welcome!* In looking more closely at your pic, it does appear that some of the scorch on your leaves aare near the ends.* I do think it got too much sun.* It will probably shed those leaves, so don't be too upset when you see that happen.
