    Honey Locust

Does anyone have one?? There's one at a local store.. I want to get it for a planter for a couple years (we should move by then)...
It's about 10' tall right now. The planter I was planning on buying would be about 3 times the size of the nursery plastic planter it's in right now.
Is that ok? How fast will it grow?
    Is 40.00 a good price?

One last question.. From what I understand the nursery varieties don't have the nasty thorns the wild ones do... Do they strip off thorns for sale.. I don't want to be 'surprized'.. Are they easily removable?

We had a beauty but had to cut it down as you will read in my next paragraph. Planting your locust in that size planter will make it so heavy that you will need heavy equipment to move it. There are many varieties of locust that don't have have thorns. I can't say about the price as I don't know where you live.

Some words of warning about locust trees is that they get surface roots that extend up to 35' and more from the tree once they mature and will lift sidewalks and driveways.

Here's a site that you can use to check out any trees for just those problems and more.
