HOW TO KILL TREE ROOTS?!
There are a row of trees next door close to my property. The trees are about 15 years old and have never been trimmed or taken care of. Now I am finding huge roots popping up in my yard. What can I do to kill these roots and protect the foundation of my nearby patio?
PLEASE HELP... the guy next door says its all my problem... :(

It is preferred to avoid cutting roots of trees.
On the other hand, if I don't want my neighbor to cut my tree roots, then I should install a root barrier to keep the roots from going over next door.
If you go to the tree care album link next to my signature - go and look at the last 20 photos and find the one showing how I cut roots coming from a next door situation. The roots were causing a very dry area in the lawn. So - the roots were cut. The tree will survive.
The photos show that it's as simple as dig, cut and slide in a root barrier.
But I would not suggest cutting more than about 5% of a trees roots in a year. Look at what is above the ground, and realize that there is about 1/2 that volume below the ground.

Just bumping the thread.
In light of this subject, if anyone is in a big city hosting garden shows, many have speakers on this and related topics within the next few months. Keep an eye on ads and web sites for these shows to keep track of the various seminars.
Happy gardening !!

There is a product called "Tordone RTU" available from Southern States.* This product is used by some professional tree removal companies to kill the roots after tree removal.* It does work, as a neighbor had this done and it did work.

I'm not that nice... I just cut them.* The problem is.. they will still attack you.
