Need help deciding on backyard tree

Hi all! I am fairly new to the whole tree planting world, and I would like some advice for a backyard tree. Just for your information, I am in North Carolina and my backyard receives sun pretty much all day long. I would really like landscape a bit in my backyard because it is pretty barren. I like dogwoods a lot, but I am not sure if they will do well in full sun? Also, if you could give some advice about what I could possibly plant around the tree to provide some nice color that would be great!! Thanks for the advice ahead of time.

The best advice I've ever heard for coming up with landscape ideas is to cruise around your area to see what appeals to you. It's the perfect way to see what thrives in your microclimate. I just planted a Kousa dogwood. They will take more sun and are more resistant to disease & drought than the regular dogwoods.

For color around the tree, you could plant clusters of spring blooming bulbs and a few perennials. Leave room to add annuals in the Summer. As an alternative, you could have a single planting for one burst of color, like a mass of daffodils all around the tree. Have fun!

    Dear Friend wanting trees,

How about trying Newport Cherry Plum.
They are very sturdy and can take full sun, so long as they are mulched properly, and Have a good water ring, or irrigated properly.
    Love,
    Rainbowhope, good, Luck...whatever you decide.;)
