    new conifers to experiment with

    hey,
I was wanting to try some new conifers near Breckenridge, Co in the rocky mtns. The area is about 9,600 feet in elevation. It gets about 18 inches of precip. a year. The average summer temp. is around 70 degrees. There are fairly deep snowpacks and often light summer rains. The soil is widely variable, ranging from clay to coarse sand. Only acidic in the well developed areas of forest. Now my real question was what species of conifers could grow in this climate successfully. I was looking at many fir and spruce species. I am open for many suggestions.

    thanks,

    Pete

p.s. sorry for such a long post

    Hi Pete,
I did a search at www.google.com and put in the box:
    conifer + high altitude

Here's a couple of sites that should be helpful.

    http://www.nationalgeographic.com/wi...im/im0502.html

This is also a great resource for plants.
