I just planted a 6-foot Cryptomeria japonica (Japanese cedar) and, since I'm new to planting trees, I wondered what would be the proper watering regimen in Southeast Pennsylvania. Thank you.

Hi GB,
Well, what can I say about your tree. I hope it isn't the species but a selected variety that won't brown during the winter. I inherited one and couldn't wait to cut it down. It was 60' tall and covered 2/3 of my small yard with it's shedding of pr*ckly branches for 6 months of the year. I am told that the newer varieties don't do this.
I did find that the tree dealt well with drought and had a massive root system. I have the photos to prove it when we dug out the stump. Anyway, here's some sites about watering trees and planting too.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
Hi, Newt:
Tnx for the info on my pine tree and the on watering the Cryptomeria. The variety is "Yoshino" and the nursery said it would not brown up during the winter so long as it was sheltered a bit from strong winds. Time will tell. It is also supposed to be deer resistant, which is an issue for us, too.
Again, tnx for your help.
GB
Hi GB,
You are so very welcome. You might want to do some reading here about your tree.
