    Plum Tree looks dead

It bore fruit last summer; now it looks dried out/ dead. I broke off a branch and it was brown all the way through and obviously dead. No signs of insects. I live in Anaheim, CA. The same seems to be happening to the nectarine tree next to it. I see no bugs/larvae/ or sap. If you can help, please let me know what to try.

You should contact your local extension service.

    Good luck,

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Are there any stubby stubs up in the tree indicating it was topped in the past?

If so, what you see could be the result of such a thing.
