    I like Backyardgardener's reply.* So true.* Most suckers on trees come up around the base of the tree.* Water shoots grow straight up from the limbs and should be pruned off too.*

    When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

    If your talking about tomatoes, a sucker is what looks like a sprout coming in the joint between stem and branch.
