My inlaws gave us a Leyland Cyprus (forgive me if it's spelled wrong) for Christmas. We planted it in May or June. We were then told that was not a good time to plant it. Anyway, it has turned brown on me. The branches are still pliable and they seem in good shape. Is there any way to save this tree? I have really been keeping it watered but I've seen no results, I even tried Miracle Grow and nothing. Help! My mother-in-law will kill me if it dies.

Uh oh, before there's a funeral, let's see if we can figure this out.* You don't really give enough info here about how you planted and mulched, but I suspect you are overwatering.* Check these sites to see if you planted it properly and at the correct depth and mulched and are watering properly.

Do you have a picture and is it completely brown?* Btw, you spelled it correctly.* :)

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Newt, you always come through for me! Well, I may have deceived everybody, not meaning to. Basically, I planted it on the side where my "neighbors" are and after I planted it I bearly watered it at all. When I noticed that the leaves were turning brown I started watering it everyday trying to save it. That being said, I mulched it with pine*straw and planted it at the depth it was in the pot.* The leaves are all brown now. I will definitely check out the links you sent. Thanks Newt, you're an angel!

You are so very welcome!* I fear that if all the leaves are brown that it may not come back for you.* You may have to purchase another and start again.* :(

Another way to*understand if the*tree is dead....*is to scrap the bark back. If it's brown.. it's dead.** Just keep scrapping it back until you see green.
