There is a tree or bush at the Salisbury Zoo, MD that looks very tropical, almost like the "Silk cotton tree". It is different in that the leaves appear to be smaller and darker green (from what I can tell in the pictures I've seen) and are not in a hand-shape. Also, the flower comes out of a hard ball that is orangish-reddish, not green and have many petals.

I've attached some pictures of the flower and leaves, and tomorrow I'm going to get a picture of the entire plant.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi Kfowle,

This must be some type of tropical plant.* The picture is so small it's difficult to see, though I'm not sure I could id it anyway.* I get the impression you will be going back there.* Any way you could ask them the name of the plant?* I'm sure they must have a gardener or horticulturist on staff.*

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Thanks! Actually, I did ask someone, and they told me it's a pomegranite tree! :)

I'm glad they were able to tell you what it is.* Here's some info on them.
