Trying to figure out the name of a Tree

    Hello,

I am trying to figure out the name of tree that I bought for my son in his memory. Mikey was stillborn at 39 weeks of pregnancy and we have made him a lil garden in his honor. We have a tree I think its a red plum but Im not sure if thats what it is called or not. It has purple leaves which stay purple all year round. An it gets to be about 15 feet tall. We also planted around the tree three butterfly bushes. I think of Mikey as my lil butterfly now and I always have butterflies flying around him as I walk outside.

Sorry to hear of your loss. There is an American Red Plum tree and there is also a purple one called Prunus cerasifera 'atropurpurea'. You could do a search at www.google.com with 'red plum' or 'red plum' + 'tree' or 'Prunus cerasifera 'atropurpurea' and you can also click on 'Images' when there and get pictures too.

Here's another site to look up plum trees. Click on 'Common Name' and then on 'P'. You can then search at google for any of those names. Best to use the botanical or Latin name as you'll probably get more useful info.

    Hope this helps,

    Trying to name that tree

I am sorry to hear of your great loss. It is very sad when something like that happens and nobody can really imagine just how you feel unless they have been through it themselves. It is lovely to know that you are keeping his precious memory alive with this tree.

I live in Australia and I am not familiar with this tree. However I have had a deal of success ID-ing plants through the following site:
    http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/namegal/
The site isn't Australian only as I have received replies from other countries, and I have seen queries from overseas.
    Best of luck,

    Sno
