I have just purchased a Sub Zero Wisteria, local grocery, cheap.* I want to plant and train it into a tree type.* Thought cheap would be okay as I don't*know how, and have only seen it done in pictures.* Box gives some basic instructions, as to how you can plant and grow it into a vine, shrub or a tree.* The one I saw done as a tree has haunted me, so I thought I would give it a try with my cheap purchase today.* ($3.99 root stock.)* Need information about soil types, if I should ammend.* Ours leans towards dry and sandy acidic.* Lots of pine in the area.* Also best locations, in general for training as a tree, etc.* Any info, bad luck stories, things not to try would also be helpful.*

    Hi Littleorchidannie,

Sounds like a great find for you.* This site should anwer all your questions.* I would recommend that you plant your 'tree' so that roots that surface over time won't be a problem.* Planted in a lawn with a mulch ring should be just fine.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

A neighbor had a wisteria standard many years ago. It never grew very large, and it had a prominent place mid lawn as a specimen tree. I don't recall it suckering or having sprout issues on the lower trunk, but I know the owners pruned it to keep the loose ball shape for the crown.

Good luck with it! I've always wanted one for myself.
