    Plant rookie with questions

Hey everyone. I'm pretty new to taking care of houseplants (I'm a 24 year old metal drummer, so I think I shocked everyone when I got into it! ). I bought a Norfolk Island Pine last summer, and have manged to keep it in excellent shape because of all the resources on the net (I didn't realize it was so popular when I bought it!). I recently purchased a majesty palm, and information on it seems to be a little scarce in comparison. I gather it's much harder to care for than my pine, and I want it to do well. Does anyone know about them and caring for them? Could you contact me about it? Really could use the help. Thanks in advance.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

That's what I gather! I'm starting to wonder how smart my purchase was! :? Thanks for the sites, though. What would you recommend for a palm as a houseplant? Other than, say, a parlor palm? Something with a little flair? Thanks again. 8)

some palms stay small, some grow slow enough to make reasonable
house plants for a number of years - some can be kept fairly small
by keeping them root bound, not that that's very nice to the plant.
Examples of palms that stay small: some chamaedoreas, some licualas.
some livistonias. Slow growing palms include livistonia chinensis (but
it will get pretty big in the long run).
Caryota mitis can be kept reasonably small by keeping them root
bound (but as I said: not a nice thing to do).
Most palms that are understory plants should make good house plants
as they neither grow very big nor need too much light.

    Good luck and good growing,

    Maren

Once I got this gigantic majesty palm that was even taller than me! But unfortunately, it became infested with scale and the poor plant almost died. Well, it didn't. Now it's growing happily, though not as big, is still pretty. I've seen people with those beautiful majesty palms. So my point is, they are pretty tough and if you care for it properly, it'll thrive. I love those palms...well, good luck!
