    Hi,

I'm new here but I had to ask this. I just picked a watermelon which is growing in a small area with cucumbers. I swear it's both of them. It has large white seeds and a mostly yellow/white flesh with some pink swirled around. It has the texture of watermellon but tastes like a cucumber.

It's not just non ripe. It's not sour or hard, just yellow and cucumber like. This one also did get about 2 times as big as the other ones. Still not too big, but a lot bigger then the others. Now i only tried one of the others so far as it had a hole so i picked it. It was all light pink. Not quite ripe and tasted as such.

I think the new watercuce is pretty good. If I save the seeds, can i grow another one? If it is in fact crossed.

Thanks for listening, hope someone knows something.

    Amy

    Hi Amy,

I don't want to disappoint you, but watermelon and cucumber don't crosspollinate.* This site can explain it better then I can.

I'm wondering if you planted seeds or purchased plants.* They may have been mislabeled.* There are yellow watermelons.

Here's how to tell if your watermelon is ripe.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Well, I am disappointed. :P Ok, I'm fine but I don't know about this.

Thanks for the Ripe Mellon Thing. Mine Looks Like the one in the picture and seems filled out for it's size. The thing is it really didn't have a top or bottom to look at because it was growing on a tower. Thats why I picked it, because it fell off.

Maybe tomorrow i will take a picture. It really tastes like a cucumber. I'm going to eat it anyways. I battled the mosquitoes to get it.

    Thanks,
    Amy

Amy, in searching around I found that most yellow watermelons have black or blackish grey seeds.* The orange ones sometimes have light colored seeds.* That's why I asked if you had grown these from seed or purchased plants.* Here's some info on the different colored ones.

I think the taste is because it isn't fully ripe.
