    Hi Phatjack,

Without knowing what you are planting and where you live it would be most difficult to say.* If you planted these from seed, the seed packet should tell you when to transplant outdoors.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

thanks for the reply. i start my seeds in january when i am wintering in texas, i bring them home to near chicago in march and transpolant them. recently i have put 4 of these plants on an unheated back porch that gets to 80's f during the day and has gotten to as low as 45 f during overnight. i would like to transplant again but am concerned about soil temps and surviveability, kthanks.

I still don't know what it is you are planting, but I would suggest you wait until the last expected frost before you plant outside, espcially since they've been on a porch with 80*F temps.* For Chicage your last expected frost date is April 25th.* If you're further north it would be into sometime in May.* You can check major cities here.

With that list I'd recommend you don't plant them outside until night time temps are consistently above 50*F to 55*F.* I found your state extension service site.* Lots of helpful info there.* They even have a section for veggie gardening.
