    Hi all,

with a question for a change: a friend gave me quite a few
pole bean seeds, and my first mistake was to put them all
into one planter and to transplant later - only later did I
read that beans hate to have their roots disturbed.

Now, to my (rather stupid) question after looking at
several websites where I still couldn't figure it out:
do pole beans have tendrils like cucurbites, gloriosa
lilies and passiflora with which they hang on to things
or do they wind around whatever they grow on like morning
glories (so that one shouldn't let them grow on trees
    that one wants to keep)?

    Thanks in advance,
    Maren

    Hi Maren,

You gave me a giggle with this one, but your question is a good one.* I did a google search with the term:
    pole beans + cling
and found these sites.* I clicked on the 'cached' selection and found that passiflora climbs by stem tendrils and pole beans climb by twining stems.

So your trees should be fine.* :)

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

    Hi Newt,

thanks, wonderful websites. Having had morning glories trying to strangle our mango tree, I'm not going to use any useful trees for pole bean trellis, but we have some weed trees in the yard as well (this is the tropics. Things grow.). Otherwise I'll stick with my tree ferns where the fronds (which have long stems) will die off eventually anyway.

BTW: gloriosa lilies have leaf tendrils (I didn't see gloriosa lilies mentioned in
    the web sites).

    Thanks again, and aloha,
    Maren
