Thread: Potato planting

  1. #1
A buddy told me his grandpa peeled potatoes in Nov/Dec and tossed the peels in the garden ontop of the snow.* Then come spring they would sprout and by June he would have fresh Potatoes!** I just did this last night and am anxious to see if it works.

Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it?

    Hi Snowskier,

I've not heard of potatoes sprouting that way, but maybe he also tossed out a chunk of potato that contained an eye that sprouted.* Even that way I find it hard to believe that they would sprout after being subjected to a freeze.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
