[align=left]Are American purple top rutabaga and American purple top yellow the same variety?

Also, I have been hunting the web this morning for rutabaga seeds. most only offer American purple top, some offer laurentin. does anyone know the real difference in rutabaga varieties? I have read that some like Joan rutabaga.*I like to find histories and origins of varieties so I will have a clue if something might do well here. Like chioggia beet is from Italy, so it might have a better chance here than the albino from Holland.
No matter how hard I look, no such histories exist for rutabagas. You're lucky to find a generic description of them. Like yellow, root purple top. It says that for all the varieties, so how does one choose?

    Hi Dekkerdreyer,

Yes, they are the same.* The top is purple and the rest is yellow.* Take a look here.

Since you like history of veggies, you should love this site called 'Our Vegetable Travelers'.* Click on 'Turnip' and scroll down for some info on rutabaga.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
