But, in asking around within my local "farming" community (folks with crop knowledge I work with that come from various states like Mississippi and Louisiana) said this reaction was due to the plant taking on too much water during our run of hot weather last week. Last week ranged from 102 to 105 and the leaves on the vine were withering. I watered the root system well on Saturday afternoon around shady sundown and they responded well - the next morning the leaves were back to spread and full. I gave it a nice slow soak for 30 minutes on Sunday morning and that was all until my sad discovery yesterday afternoon.

SO, am I to blame? Did I end up destroying one of my own through an unknowingly dangerous act of kindness?

The guilt! Oh, the guilt!!!!
