Thread: Saving seeds?

  1. #1
We had a few straggly peas now that their season is over and we are wondering about saving the seeds to plant for next harvest. We have no idea what to do in terms of drying them - in pod or out? - and if it will even work. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi PhillyLynne,

Seeds that are saved are usually from the earliest fruit/veggie with the best traits.* So saving seed from scraggly plants may have disappointing results next year.* With that said it might be fun to save them anyway.* This first site has info on saving seeds from several veggies.* The second one has useful info too.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

    - Dry pods... remove seeds and store the seeds in a paper bag in the refrig

I would save them and learn from the results. Maybe over the seasons you could train that family of peas back to normal.
