Slow growing onions

[align=justify]Help!! My onions seem to be growing slow. This is my 1st time planting onions from seed and I planted them in mid-May. They are Sweet Spanish Yellow Utah Jumbo. The plants are about 5-7 inches tall and not very thick. I live in Maryland and it has been hot and humid (which actually is normal 8) ). Is this a normal growth or should they be bigger?

at 5-7 inches tall I wouldn't expect onions to start filling out yet ...
(but then, may depend on the variety)
