I purchased*6 zucchinnis and*3 yellow squash plants, being careful not to mix up which was which when I planted.* My yellow squash developed a fruit, green in color.* It appears long enough to harvest now, but is still green.* I've never grown yellow squash before... does it turn yellow on the vine, or should it start as yellow and is my "yellow squash" actually a green zucchinni?* I really doubt I mixed up the plants when I planted them, but maybe they were mis-marked at the garden center.

Sounds like someone mixed up the labels.* :X* Yellow squash should be yellow on the vine.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Thank you.* I guess I can hope that it was *my* mistake, and I planted the zucchinni where I thought I put the yellow squash.* I have female flowers on my other "zucchinnis", so I guess in a few days, I will have the proof.

Well, it could all work out in the end and you'd still have both kinds.* It's when you think you're planting squash and end up with pumpkins.* Now that's some big time label swapping!**

I'd love to know what you end up with.

I'll check back in when the final verdict is in.

I really don't mind if it is green or yellow squash, I like both.* I just hope the dreaded squash vine borer doesn't get them this year!!

If you had the squash vine borer last year you are likely to have them again this year, especially if you planted in the same place.* You should find this helpful.
