Beaucarnia recuvata (Ponytail Palm)

I have quite a collection of large, multi-stemmed ponytails in containers and I'd like to give a hint about planting ponytails - Beaucarnia recuvata:
- Remove the roots from the plants - there is sufficient food in the ball to support it till it forms new roots
- Use a wide low container instead of a narrow deep one.
- Fill the container with a mixture of soil and sand - ensure good drainage
- Make a hole in the soil the same shape as the lower part of the ball of the plant.
- line the hole with a layer of small gravel - 13 mm
- Place the plant on the gravel and top up with soil.
The roots will find their way through the gravel but with the ball standing on the gravel, the ball will not rot due to overwatering or the soil staying too moist under the ball.
At the moment 3 of my ponytails are in flower.
