Help !** my bougainvillaea's are under attact by something that has little white strips on the underside of the leaves that look like cotton wool,then the leaves are all falling off yellow, they are all grown in pots* :(*

most likely some insect or mite. Try a mixture of mild soap and water, a few table spoons (try 2-3) full per liter of water.

Sounds like some type of mealy bug.* Not sure what you folks have in Spain, but I suspect that is what it is. Does it look like this?

I agree with Maren that you can use a spray of insecticidal soap.* Spray every 5 to 7 days until they are gone.* I can't remember if I gave you the recipe for it.* It's the same recipe that Maren gave you.

If that doesn't work I would go with the least toxic choice next such as an organic horticultural oil.* Try and get something like Organocide that is made from sesame seeds.* Don't confuse it with Organicide which is made from petroleum.

Newt: I had no idea about the difference between Organicide and Organocide.

Morinja: you may not be able to get the same things in Spain that we get in the US, which is part of why I phrased my first reply as general as I did. I use Palmolive on plants, mostly because I bought some at some point and find it useless for dishes, but I'd probably use Ivory if I didn't have the leftover Palmolive.

Hi Maren yes I think I have mealy bug having looked at the sites*** you and Newt gave me , so I will try my Fairy Liquid washing up soap and on my Hibiscus as that looks a little sad now ,but we****** have high temperatures now 38c plus and the walls are giving off a lot of heat*

Hello Newt* thank you for the info, I am sure now*I have mealy bug so am going to spray with washing up liquid . This seams to be a big problem with a few of my plants even my ivy is being attacked !* I am still on this huge learning curve

Morinja, if your washing up liquid is a detergent and not a soap, it can damage your plants.* Please make sure it's soap.* Sorry to hear of all that heat.* We are having an unusual cool spell here and it's soooo refreshing.*

You might want to move your hibiscus so it gets some afternoon shade.
