I planted my Frat bulbs out in containers a couple of months ago and I'm wondering now how long I might have to wait before I start to see them growing. It's the first time with Frats for me. Should I wait until spring before I see any above ground*action and are the pots ok outside for a british winter?

    Hi Dave,

I'm thinking you mean Fritillaria bulbs.* These are hardy bulbs and need a chill period before they'll bloom.* I suspect you won't see any growth until spring.* You can leave them outdoors for the winter as long as the pots are large enough not to freeze and thaw.* You could even leave them in an unheated garage or shed, watered and covered with a couple of layers of newspaper. * Put them outdoors in the light the beginning of March.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
