Hi I have a new lemon tree about 4 feet high it was in a 10 inch pot when purchased last week and I have repotted it to a 15 inch pot and it seems healthy but the very new and green and perfect looking leafs are falling off is it in shock ? it is around 30cnow so I am not sure how often to water it I am on a very large learning curve so all help much appreciated** :(***** Morinja

Hi Morinja,

We haven't heard from you in a while so I'm thinking that everything is growin well for you!* :)

It's usually best to transplant to a pot that is 2" larger, not 5".* If the rootball was very rootbound and you didn't loosen the roots, that could also be part of the problem as it might not be able to get enough water to the center of the rootball.* If it was grown in shadier conditions then you have it in, that could cause sunburn and be the problem. Hi Newt many thanks I am afraid I did not touch the root ball would standing the pot in a saucer of water solve my problem? there is so much to learn and I keep getting carried away each time I visit the garden centre** will look at the sites thank you***** Morinja* :)

I wouldn't recommend letting it stand in water for more then 15 minutes.* Do you remember if it was rootbound with a very tight rootball and roots that went round and round?* If so, you only potted it last week, I would suggest you take it out of the pot and take a look at the rootball.* I think I gave you pictures of a rootbound plant before.* If not, lmk.

HI again yes the roots did seem tight so I will look at your site and take it out and loosen them up don't know what I would do with out all your valuble information**

Hi again well I have just seen some of my top large leafs are half eaten something is munching big time so may be this is my problem can't see anything on the leaves one leaf has a big round hole and the others have one side eaten*************

Gosh, I don't know what would eat the leaves of a lemon tree like that,. With you being in Spain I'm not familiar with your pests.* If it's just a semi-circle taken out of the leaf it could be a leafcutter bee.* Does the damage look anything like this?

Hi thanks for your answer no I have not seen a bee like that and the leaves are eaten all the way around and some have tiny round holes but I have noticed some very tiny ants brown ones near to my plants not many but I have put ant traps out* thanks again for your help Newt

I am truly stumped.* I have looked at every diagnostic guide I have for citrus and can't find anything that would chew the leaves on a rooftop garden and not be seen.* Have you asked locally?
