Tulip Bulbs

My husband brought home over two hundred tulip bulbs that had been previously planted and flowered this spring.

On his construction jobsite, the shopping center landscapers took the red* ones out and will replant with yellow.* Go Figure!

What do I do with the wet bulbs?* Some of the bulbs are very large,*and have*several smaller bulbs within each one bulb.

This is my first attempt ever with any type of bulb planting.

I couldn't turn down this many bulbs, and he was so proud of himself to retrieve them for me.* Any help is appreciated.

Hi Murphyred,

Please don't misunderstand this, but you may find you will be disappointed with the display of blooms next year.* Many tulip bulbs (not all) grow to bloom size, set offset bulbs (those smaller bulbs you see), and then die.* You can't tell which from just looking at the flowers or bulbs.* I would suggest you plant them asap about 8" to 10" deep.* Add 3" to 4" of compost to the planting bed and mix it in.* Then plant.* If there are any leaves attached that have some green, leave them to feed the bulbs for next years bloom.* Remove the leaves once they are yellow.

Newt, Thank*you so much for your reply.* As I said, I am a part-time gardener. I am not a bit dissapointed.** I was hoping to get them in the ground now, and be rid of them.*

We have planted vegetable gardens for a few years now and have had a bounty of goodies.** This year we have decided to tackle some landscaping and grass revival.*****

So far I have had the dubious task of working the grass seed.* That was quite the project.** I also planted some azalea bushes and impatiens.*

The only problem I had with the azaleas, we had some 70 and 80 degree days and it was most wonderful to get outside and get my hands dirty.* Then the next week we had a bad cold snap and I lost 2 of the bushes.*

No worry though.* I had bought them at Lowes really cheap.**And three of them have now blossomed and are a beautiful pink variety.*
