I was curious to see what others have to say about these subjects, was surprised to see no threads here so here is my* post.

I have bog gardened and rain gardened along with pond gardening, I find it quite interesting, was wondering which plants do you use in your water gardens.

    Hi Khoas,

If I remember, you live in Australia.* Here's some sites with info on bog plants you should find helpful.
    http://www.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/welcome...ens/Bog_Garden

At this site you can click on 'Plants' at the top and get info on many.

You might want to add your location in your profile so it shows like mine does.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Urbanol'mcnld, isn't Disneyland in Los Angelos? I've been there, both to Disneyland and to visit relatives that live in Los Angelos. I didn't find it as hot and dry as say Phoenix, Az. I'll bet there is a bog garden at Disneyland. I think the major problem would be lack of water during the hottest months and that could become costly. A bog garden in such a location would need shade from the hottest sun of the day and might be better placed in a shady location.

Btw, what is "oc" in reference to socal? I get it that socal would be southern California, but I don't know what "oc" means.

I'm zone 9b, Florida and I've seen DisneyWorlds fireworks from home before, too. And I had a bog garden at that home. I grew things like pickerel weed, nuphar, and cattails, and emersed plants like ludwigia, submersed plants like vallisneria. I had sundews for a while, grew violets and other moisture loving plants on the edges of the sunken pond. Anything that needed to be more emersed I would have on upended pots so that only the pot was in the water or whatever requirement it needed.

I encouraged a natural ecosystem with frogs and toads, snails, and mosquito fish. I had to introduce the mosquito fish, though. Other stuff including gammarus and hydra came in on wild collected plants.

It can be a lot of work, especially if it's not a naturally occurring water feature. DisneyWorld is built on reclaimed swampland, so there are definitely wetland around it, but my yard was pretty dry without my intervention.
