I'm wondering if I can divide part of a clematis that is to say not dig up the whole root system and still obtain a plant. I'm afraid of digging a 4 ' hole . This plant has sprouts coming out in a 10 -12 " radius.* Can this be done without disturbing the rest of the plant? I appreciate the help. Coralbelle.

I'm not sure I understand, but dividing means root disturbance and literally dividing the root system.* Clematis don't do well with this.* It sounds like you want to take cuttings and start new plants.* That can be done.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Okay, thanks Newt. Its sounds like I better look for new plants . I think they like where they are planted . They have shaded roots and the vines are in full sun.I'm going to try that combination of shade and sun in the front of our house. Again , thanks for all your great advice, Coralbelle...
