When I want to learn more about a select species of plants, I would refer to the experts. They normally have societies supportting the species.* You research the

    Hi Tyfon,

Most of the larger flowered hibiscus are the tropical ones. From what I know the size of the flower is in the genes of the plant * Did you find the one you were looking for?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Tyfon, I'm not sure what you mean by chemicals for enlarging the size of the flowers being multi colored.* An organically rich soil is the best thing you can do for your plants as it will provide all the nutrients the plant needs.* Add lots of compost to the planting bed to enrich the soil.* Synthetic chemicals, if that is what you've found, tend to leave behind residual salts that aren't good for the plants or soil and they don't feed the soil but just feed the plants.* It's like steroids for your plants.

This person wants what we call a dinner plate hibiscus, but appears to believe it can be achieved through soil additives or nutrients. Not so.

Great soil can do fantastic things for rate of growth and sometimes flower or fruit size, but you have to have the right cultivars to get the biggest flowers. Try Hibiscus Moscheutos Galaxy, reputed to have 8 to 10 inch blooms.

This is a link to a blog about a northern US gardener and her experiences with diner plate hibiscus. She has to stake them and protect them from rain.

You'd have to convince the original poster, not the rest of us,
but hibiscus can be grown from cuttings and if that person gets a cutting of the right one it should come out the same. Soil amendments may influence the number of flowers and the health of the plant. growth rate and a bunch of things, but not the size.

And (also in the reply to the person who asked the question) rare and showy plants are that expensive.

    Aloha,

I have one of the hibiscus with the larger flowers and I do not have to add any chemicals or additives to it to make them large. I will post some pictures.
