I need to divide my orange daylilies. They are the kind you see growing in clumps everywhere in rural areas. Because fall comes fast and miserable here can I dig and divide now? Thanks for advice.

Late summer is a good time to divide them. The temps here have been close to 100*F and sometimes higher.* I would wait until the temps were 80*F or lower so there can be root growth.* More handy links with some good advice.

Hey Newt, we had that 100 degree heat last week. A lot of coneflowers are browned at the edge of the petals. Combined with a lack of rain- we had alittle over an inch for the month of July - was giving my sprinkler a workout. I have my work cut out for me with the daylillies as they haven't been divided for 10 years. Talk to you later. Thanks, coralbelle.
You mean you sent that heat here? ;)* Gosh, 10 years.* Remember to lift with your knees.*:?

I would dig them up and take a shovel and split them.** It may look ugly, but they will survive.
