I'm wondering if I can prune some branches on my maple tree now? I appreciate any advice on the matter. Thanks from Coralbelle.

The best time to prune a maple are May, June, July, November or December so you're ok.* Here's a pruning calendar for deciduous trees.

Do you need sites on how to prune trees?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Newt, This is good news. I have consulted my books and I feel confident on which branches to cut. I just have to show my hubby so he can do this for me. We have not had luck with our trees and I would be sick if I lost this one. We had drought conditions in '04 and the trees suffered so. I lost my beautiful mountain ash last summer which was right across from the maple in the front yard. Both of these I dug out of the backyard when they were only inches high. My neighbors behind me lost two giant elms last year due to dutch elm disease. Thanks so much for answering so quickly I appreciate this- Coralbelle

Coralbelle, you are so very welcome!* It's so sad you have lost so many trees.* It's happening in many places and the climate changes aren't helping any.* Some places are experiencing drought that's been basically unheard of while other areas are flooding.* It's really sad for our planet.
