Purple Loostrife?
Sure does look alot like purple loosestrife.* Hope that's not it.* I was once given a plant by a friend when it was just a small clump of leaves.* When it bloomed it didn't look like the Veronica she said it was supposed to be.* After researching it I discovered it was purple loosestrife.* I learned the best way to destroy it so it doesn't reappear in the environment again is to burn it.* I dug it up, put it in a paper bag and burned it in the fireplace the following winter.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
I agree it looks ominous, however I went to the following site before pulling any up and the pictures don't look like the one bottle brush panicle that these plants get.

I will do a little more research and see if I have a picture from last year before they bloom this year!!!
I'd love to see a picture.

ths is more what the flower heads look like..................I found it in some pictures I took in Maine last year. It's not my plant but looks very close.........
That's a butterfly bush, but I get the idea.* Is the stem square?* Purple loosestrife has a square stem like mint does. I didn't read the site you posted as it was taking too long to download and I'm too rushed for time. *:? * Take a look here for more descriptive info.

Still looks more like the butterfly bush..........but I am taking no chances since I did not plant them and they are quickly propagating, I have pulled them all (I hope) most had really large tap roots others had regular loose root systems.* I would rather err on the side of stopping an invasion then loosing control! Thank You.
Did it have square stems?

I went to my local reputable garden center and found a butterfly bush plant which was the exact match to* the plants I pulled out last week.*Buddeleia also has squarish stems and I did not know that they spread themselves readily either.* My husband is not too pleased with me but there are more coming up again and you live and learn!!!* I should be glad it was not purple loostrife!!*
