    Edible? Relative of Patty-Pans?

A neighbor has a pile of these and called them "gourds".

I'm hoping they are edible. They look like they are in the same family as the Patty-Pan squash which I like and grew(although the squash-borers cut the crop very short), and I'd love some feedback if anyone here has seen, displayed, or eaten these before.
    I'll try and post pictures-

Zilflip. I believe these are ornamental gourds. They are sold from seed called Shenot Crown of Thorns. The latin name is Cucurbita pepo.var oviferis. They do not appear to be edible.

Wow, what a cool gourd! I would grow them even though they are not edible. The color and shape are so interesting. Look like little flying saucers!

    Thanks
