Hi Cherrie,
I can't quite tell from the photo as it's rather small, but it appears to be a Senna, possibly Senna pendula aka Cassia bicapsularis (syn.), Christmas senna, golden shower, Christmas cassia.

Is that your shrub?

I can't thank you enough!* That is the plant.* On Dave's Garden web site someone named "budgielover" sent a picture of the blossom.* It looks exactly like it and it was labeled Christmas senna.* My 2 master gardener friends will be so happy to find out what it is!
Cherrie
Cherrie, you are so very welcome!* Glad I was able to help.* If you intend to plant the Senna, here is a link to areas where it's considered an invasive species.* California is included on that list.
