Just wanted to request you to kindly id these 2 plants for me. Friends, I've bought these plants for my Vivarium and I've planted them such that the roots and the lower part of the stem are inside water and the plant is above the water level. Kindly guide me if these 2 plants can be grown in this way and will they survive.
Thanks a lot for your time and for kindly guiding me.
Regards and Care to all,
Kush
The first plant is a nephthytis, commonly called 'white butterfly'. I've had some rooting in water for years at a time, but it grows in soil, sometimes quite dry sandy soil, here in Florida.
The second's appearance is ubiquitous. Could be a philodendron, or a peperomia, and I think I've even seen hoya with leaves like that. A first rapid glance made me think of anthurium, but all of these are terrestrial plants. Philodendron could grow emersed in water for a long time, but I don't think peperomia could for very long. I really don't know for sure what plant this is.
The third is definitely eichornia or the common name 'water hyacinth.' It does grow floating on water, and will have a lovely flower stalk of pale purple. It's a noxious weed in Florida, invading and choking many waterways. While it can cause a contact dermatitis, parts of it are edible.
