My mother's friend brought me this plant. It has triangular leaves, in groups of three and small pink flowers. New here - hope the attached pic shows! Thanks for any help! Beth

    Hi Beth,

You have an Oxalis regnellii var. triangularis aka purple leaf shamrock.* Most folks grow them as houseplants, but I suspect you are in zone 8 and could probably grow them outdoors as well.* You might want to try a few bulbs outside in spring if you have enough of them. Be sure to keep some in the house in a pot as a very cold winter can destroy them.

I grow mine indoors as they don't often survive zone 7 winters outdoors.* I've tried that.* :(* I find they like a bright spot with a couple of hours of sun.* I add a tablespoon of milk to a quart of water and they bloom alot for me.* You might want to consider repotting yours so there is an inch of space at the top of the pot.* A shallower pot might work for you.* You can see mine here.

Thank you, thank you so much!! Will do as you suggest tomorrow - all looked well in the bucket this afternoon. (I'd placed them there temporarily until further info was available.)

I am so thrilled to find this forum. Seems like a great group of gardeners!! Again, many thanks!

Beth, you are so very welcome!* Glad I could help id your plant. Btw, you might notice in my picture that the leaves are folded up.* They do that when the light is low.* I took the picture only minutes before I posted it here and it had already folded up for the night.
