Again I need assistance in identifying a plant. It looks harmless and is absolutely the first time I have ever seen an "orange thistle", especially in a garden here in Oregon. Is that what this is?
Any assistance you can offer will be great

Newt's a great teacher -
following her example of when I posted my whatzit question and she found buffalobur, I googled "orange flower thistle" and it lead me to a plant identifying link that said your plant was safflower.
Orange Thistle-like flower - Name That Plant Forum - GardenWeb
Then I googled safflower and it fed back a host of safflower sites.
safflower - Google Images
(above is one link to pictures of you plant)
it looks like a keeper - it was called a poor man's saffron ($$$ saved)
When I googled orange thistle all that came up was florists that dyed the thistle orange.......
