This plant is growing in my garden. I was working on pulling grass and cleaning things up but didnt want to pull it till I knew what it was. I live in NSW, Australia right on the coast.

    Hi Sculpi,

I can't quite tell from the picture as I can't clearly see the top leaves, but it appears to be some type of Ipomoea aka Morning Glory. See this site. It loaded very slowly for me.
    http://www.sgaonline.org.au/invasive_ipomoea.html

If you click on the link at the bottom of the page it will take you to this site with a list of invasives in Australia.

I'd love to know what you find out.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

    not morning glory

Thanks for that but its not morning glory...we have SOOOO many of those around (they drive me crazy). This is an upright plant with reddish stalks, not a vine.
I will try and get a better photo.
    Thanks for trying

Leila, you are so very welcome! Instead of posting here, since I probably still won't know what it is, I would suggest you post your pictures at this botanical gardens website. It's located in British Columbia, Canada, but the folks there are great at identification of plants from all over the world. Here's their main site.
    http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/forums/index.php?

Here's where you should post your question and pics for outdoor plants.

Be sure to let them know where it grows. I'd love to know what they say it is.

    Red face still looking

    Hi Newt,
I put photos of this plant on the Canadian site but no replies. I got a request for more photos and thought I would put them here. I did find a small tree in the nearby bush that appeared to be the same sort of leaves but its not in good shape so hard to tell.
    Thanks for looking

Leila, I'm so sorry that you didn't get an answer there, but I thought it might be worth a try. I found this site about member gardens in NSW of the National Botanic Gardens network. Could one of these be near you?
    http://www.anbg.gov.au/chabg/bg-nsw/index.html

Here's a directory of Australian Botanic Gardens.
    http://www.anbg.gov.au/chabg/bg-dir/

Another possibility would be to find a gardening or tree forum specific to Australia.

I'd love to know if you id this.

    Omolanthus populifolius?

A local native plant nurseryman told me it may be a Omolanthus populifolius, or native bleeding heart. Does this sound right to you?
