    Hi there,

I hope that someone here will be able to help :)

I have been given three new houseplants, however, as I am a cat owner I am very wary of having them where the cats can get to them.

The first, I believe should be okay, it is some sort of Chamaedorea. Do you know what the full name is? also if you know whether it is safe then please let me know.

The second plant, I am very wary of, as it is some sort of Ivy - although I don't know what ivy it is. I have taken pictures of the plant, and one of the leaves.

and the final plant is a cycas palm, however there are plenty of cycas plants, so I'm trying to find out the type.

Thanks so much for any help that you can give.

    Kind regards

    Dean

    Hi DBurkett,

I suspect your first plant is Chamaedorea elegans aka Palor Palm aka Neanthe Bella Palm.

There is a taller version called Chamaedorea siefritzii aka Reed Palm.

Your second plant appears to be Hedera helix aka English ivy aka California ivy.* There are several selections with different names.

Your third plant is probably Cycas revoluta aka Sago Palm.

You should find this info about plants toxic to animals helpful.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
