Tall Cone-shaped Plant - Can someone pls identify

I recently returned from a trip up the Central Coast region of California, and I spotted some plant that is very unusual--and it's something I'd like to get my hands on for my own garden. First I must identify the plant since I have done searches online but not found the name. Does anyone know what this is called? It's pink/violet color in the flower section. The plant is cone shaped and about 5-6 feet tall, and it has lambs wool-like leaves on the bottom. I spotted the plant in Cayucos, California.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
