Is this in the thistle family?

The following is in my back yard in a flower bed. They seem to be a flower as they are not everywhere but in the flower bed. They remind me of a thistle, but the leaves are smooth. Any assistance will be welcome.

    Thanks banddaddyd

    Hmmm

I know what a bachelor button is and these do not look like that. I will go online and see if I can find a cornflower. You are correct. I thot these were from the ground as they are all in the same general area.

    Thanks

    Red face

Centaurea Montana. AKA perrenial bachelor button or perrenial cornflower Family: Asteraceae
nice plant. short(ish)[lived perrenial up here but re-seeds itself.

have it in my perrenial beds with ssome orange Tiger lillies. they bloom at the same time and look very nice together.

definately on the right track with the latin name superHM
Centaurea cyanus are the annual bachelor buttons. annual bachelor buttons have double flowers. the perrenial has single flowers. gets confusing with numerous common names for the same plant. makes me crazy sometimes.
