I moved into a new place in January and have all sorts of interesting plants growing in my small yard.

This one is just starting to bloom and will have clusters of tiny yellow flowers.* The leaves remind me of geraniums and are light green.*

I am in SE Alaska - it is Zone 7 = near the ocean - temperate rain forest, it hasn't gotten above 65 F*yet this summer and it rains a lot so this may be later blooming than elsewhere. Last winter it got down to 5 F (colder than typical for here) and it (the roots) survived. I have a couple large plants and it also has reseeded itself elsewhere.

The picture attached is not my plant, but I found it by googling image of perennials, and I am pretty sure my plant will look like that when it finished blooming. Unfortunately it is linked to a page in Park Seeds which no longer exists.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Sitkarose,

Congratulations on your new home!!* I think what you have is a Lady's Mantle aka Alchemilla mollis.* Does water form beads on the leaves?* I did a google for this plant and it appears to be the top row, second from the right.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

So glad we found it!* Here's a pic of the water beading on a leaf that I was talking about.

To help you id your plants I'm thinking that there are many gardening books in the library with plant encyclopedias in the back of them that might be helpful for you to id your plants.* I also have a couple of search engines you could use if you like.* It might cut down on your search time.

FYI... the plant does self seed.* In the PNW, I find it every where in my yard.
