Vine/Ivy Identification Please!
This was planted as a small sprig and has really exploded into a large vine. There is only one root portion in the ground, it is really long and a gorgeous purple on the underside of the leaves and a mix of either purple or yellowish/brown on top. It really reminds me a lot of kelp for some reason. I just want to know if it will survive if I move it to the shade. It has been doing really well in full sun, but it's taking over my yard and I have to move it.
Thank you! ![]()

It's an ornamental sweet potato, I don't know which one. If you move it to shade, it will probably lose a lot of that color. Yours already looks a little pale, so I'm guessing it's not in that sunny a location as it is.
I've never grown the ornamental ones myself, but you can easily trim back the vegetable variety without much problem. |

Interesting!
My front yard is completely in the sun starting at about 10am (you can see the sun starting to come to the right in the pics and I took themaround 9am) and stays sunny straight through to sunset so it is definitely getting full sun all day, however, you might be right in that some of the leaves are underneath and so aren't getting as much sun.
The spot I want to move it is under a tree in the front, still get's a lot of sun (my hastas that I planted there totally burned up b/c it was too sunny) so hopefully they will still get enough. Thank you for ID'ing that for me! I searched everything I could think of and couldn't figure it out, even my botanist dad didn't know the name for it. |
