Thread: What is this?

  1. #1
    HI!

I've had this plant for awhile, but I have no idea what this is. It has sprouted shoots out of the center of the plant. These look as if they could be planted to start new individual plants. There are also small white flowers with 6 petals and 4 yellow stamen on the sprout. I would like to try replanting the sprouts but need to know what this is so I can be sure to do it properly.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Freesand,

You have Chlorophytum comosum aka spider plant.* You are correct that you see young plantlets. You can place them in a pot of soil while still attached to the parent.* When they establish with new roots you can cut the stem off.

They come in different named varieties, with some that are solid green and others that have different types of vareigation.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Thank you so much! I had looked at the A&M website so many times and nevr saw that. But I was looking for something in the sedge family. Now I can get on the path to planting these little babies. I have 2 of these plants and both of them are going crazy the young plantlets.

    Thanks again for your help!
